How are the Children and Young People involved?
We have a Youth Committee that represents the young peoples opinions and views. They are met once a month by the Youth Support worker for our organisation, Stacey Meenan. We have also got a youth sub group who help the youth support worker to organise different programmes i.e. summer programmes etc. A number of our young people including peer educators took part in a three month programme based on youth and politics.There was three day educational residential that taught the young people about politics and how to lobby poilticians. They were given the chance to challenge politicians from different political parties in a questions and answering session. They participated in a debate in a chamber in Stormont based on issues that they felt were important in their communities. We are now looking at establishing a youth forum in West Belfast, although this may pose some problems as young people in each community are dis-illusioned with adult involvement in how to run a youth forum.
