BEYOND – Compass Advocacy Network[NI]
Age Group: 14 to 19 years
Specific Interest Group: transition age groups within special schools
How are the Children and Young People involved?
-to be part of user led advocacy groups
We aim to establish Advocacy Groups within the schools and facilitate these using many different mediums, including, Drama, Music, Movement, Mime, Role play, Discussions, painting, drawing etc
The young people will learn the skills of how to run a committee, they will each have a role to play within that group. These roles will include: Chairperson, Treasurer, Secretary, their deputies, social secretary, photographer and many more as the group needs.
They will also through these roles learn to vote, to bring up issues that they feel are relevant to them.
The young people will also be following the ASDAN module books, each at their own pace. These are accredited and recognised books and are marked and moderated externally.
Most importantly, they will be in a safe environment, where they can express their opinions and views and learn to speak up, to contribute to the sessions, feel a sense of value and belonging. All this will be based on developing their confidence and self esteem.
Lastly but by no means least, they will have FUN!
