Children’s Express UK [E/NI/S/W]

Children’s Express (UK) is a programme of learning through journalism for young people aged 8-18. It is a growing national news agency and a charity, where young people produce articles on issues that are important to them, but of interest to everyone.

At Children’s Express young people choose which stories they want to investigate, conduct research, prepare questions and lead discussions and interviews. They record everything onto tape. Tapes are converted into print and editors help turn them into the finished article, which appears on the website.

Children’s Express has newsrooms in London, Birmingham, Sheffield, Newcastle, Belfast and Plymouth, has trained over 450 children and published more than 600 stories. Information about its many other activities are available on the website. All of them aim to give young people the power and the means to express themselves publicly on vital issues that affect them, and in the process to raise their self-esteem and develop their potential
