How are the Children and Young People involved?
Young people are openly encouraged and trained to take on all roles within the centre, community, nationally and internationally. Participation is the foundation stone of all our work and influences all our policies and program areas. At present we have young people taking on minor roles within the youth club such as tuck shop and organising minor activities through to young people as volunteers, training as youth workers and recently producing a major piece of research and the publication of a youth strategy for the area.
The youth strategy for Upper Springfield involved the interviewing of 86 young people aged 14-20 year of age. They produced a 25 year strategy for the development of services within their community. The next stage for this development is the election of a youth forum for the area. This group will then feed into the BCC Shadow Youth Council, NI Youth Forum, NICCY, BELB youth forum, UK Youth Parliament and much more. The group will also sit on the local Neighbourhood Partnership and other policy making bodies within the area.

This project has influenced program areas, the way we work with young people and the impacts that the project has on their lives and opportunities.
