How are the Children and Young People Involved?
They are elected by their peers in a process which mirrors the district council elections, so 8000 young people vote for who they want their shadow councillors to be. The members send out comment cards asking what issues are effecting their electorate. 3278 young people replied to our last survey. The young people then devise and design projects in response to issues raised. This has included campaigning for bus shelters, obtaining student discounts, creating an anti-bullying graffiti wall, holding a concert and various conferences. Young people work with local councillors, lobby statutory agencies and organise all aspects of their work. Past and present members sit on the Management Committee and young people have been involved in the recruitment of staff.
