How are the Children and Young People involved?
This group of young people are responsible for coming up with their own projects, actively applying for funding and undertaking projects to completion. Examples of recent work undertaken include (2004/05) - designing and distributing 6 suicide awareness posters the project was called S.E.R.I.O.S. (Some educational relevant information on suicide). The group have also worked with a local women’s group for 3 months and put on a play that addresses the negative perceptions of young people in the area (2005/06). The group just designing and writing a 12 page booklet of true stories, facts, helplines etc on issues such as alcohol, drugs and sex (2005/06).

Update
The Youth Forum have been active this year - after securing £950 from Youthbank in 2005 they then met weekly and designed and produced a 12 page risk booklet “Wait til ye hear the Craic?”. The booklet contains true stories from young people on issues of alcohol, drugs and sexual health, the booklet also contains facts and fiction, help line and useful website addresses and horoscopes.

The group then applied to Youthbank and were sucesful in securing £1000 to have a drama piece “Respect Works Both Ways” professionally filmed. The group worked with Galliagh Women’s Group last year and produced a 30 minute piece which they showed to an audience of approximately 60 adults and young people in the local Parish Centre. The group met weekly from March and involved other other young people and performed their drama piece in The Playhouse to approximately 100 adults and young people.

Members of the Youth Forum have fed into the Suicide Prevention Strategy and the Neighbourhood Renewal Consultation. The group plan to launch both their DVD “Respect Works Both Ways” and information Booklet “Wait til ye hear the Craic?” in July and distribute these to schools and Youth Clubs. The group also plan to address issues such as Joyriding, Self Harm and Suicide in a further information booklet in 2006/7.
