WIMPS website -participatory resource[NI]

A new, interactive website for N. Ireland’s young people has been launched. Entitled Wimps, an acronym for Where is My Public Servant?, the resource aims to create real relationships between young people and the decision makers who influence their lives.

10 young people from across N. Ireland were recruited in July 2004 to develop the new interactive WIMPS website. The resource is run by and for young people.

Key aims were to inspire and empower young people, giving them a voice in the decisions that affect all our lives, and to encourage young people to talk/influence politicians and public representatives.

Young people will update the site on a daily basis with details of youth-led campaigns & polls, projects led by young people, interviews with politicians and other issues of relevance to the younger generation. Readers will also be able to sign electronic petitions.

Young people all over Northern Ireland can contact the website to receive direction and advice in how to take action on community issues that affect them and that they feel strongly about.  A key feature of the site is that by typing in their postcode, young people can access their MP, MEPs, assembly members and councillors through email, via Political Wizard software, a web-based lobbying and contact tool.

The website has been provided by the consultancy group, Chambre Public Affairs (CPA).  To access the website, and to find out more details, please refer to the link to the right.
