Include Youth[NI]
Include Youth was formed in 1979 primarily as a campaigning organisation working to enhance services for vulnerable young people at risk of entering the care or criminal justice systems. 25 years on, this work remains at the core of the organisation. They have the unique position of being placed between different agencies and services, straddling the area of social care, criminal justice and education, allowing for the enhancement of services and practice across Northern Ireland when working with young people at risk of social exclusion.
Policy Issues
• To undertake public policy campaigning to promote the best interests of young people at risk of social exclusion.
• To interact with communities and other organisations to promote a rights based approach when interacting with young people at risk
• To increase the capacity of young people to be involved in responding to policy initiatives.
Include had a number of projects such as:
• The give and take scheme
• Peer Mediation: teaches young people how to manage conflict in a non-threatening and co-operative way. Check out the Peer Mediation website for more information
• Young Voices: aims to support excluded and at risk young people in the process of reviewing, planning or developing services, practice or policy initiatives which impact on their lives.
• YOYO (you’re only young once): is a forum for any practitioner working with vulnerable young people aged 10 - 21. The forum is used to inform and consult on the latest policies and issues relating to young people.
• The LACE project aims to improve the educational outcomes for looked after children and young people in Northern Ireland.
