NAS Social Programmes[NI]
Age Group: 16+
Specific Interest Group: Children and Young People with Asperger’s Syndrome and High Functioning Autism
How are Children and Young People Involved?
NAS Social Programmes are available to anyone over the age of 16 with a diagnosis of Asperger Syndrome or High Functioning Autism (or who are actively seeking a diagnosis).
Asperger Syndrome and Governance - User Representation
People with Asperger syndrome are underrepresented on Boards and Committees of organisations and thus do not have their voices heard. The NAS is keen to equip people with the skills they will need to participate in meetings and decision making processes. This means we want to encourage people to explore whether they would like to serve on committees, boards and represent themselves and others with ASD.
About NAS NI Asperger Branch
In N.I this has been set up in line with the NAS NI Asperger Branch. This branch of the NAS is a group of adults with Asperger Syndrome. Although this is relatively new - the branch officer and treasurer has been supported in structuring the branch. In the initial meetings our focus is on what the aims of the branch are and what they want to achieve. We are also working on the social skills required in more formal ‘meetings’ than in Social Groups. From this foundation we will move into more formal representation of self and others.
