Newry and Mourne Carers Association Young Carers Project [NI]

Age Group: 8-18
Specific Interest Group: Young Carers

How are Children and Young People Involved?
When we have had young cares involved in an activity/event we ask for feedback. This is usually feedback. We have also used comment/suggestion boxes and questionnaires. Generally these consultations take place either directly before or after an organised event. Many young cares have limited free time. For some young carers specific arrangements need to be made for the person they care for to be looked after by some one else. It is for this reason that we tend occasionally brought young carers together specifically to engage them in consultation about what they would like the project to offer.

The 3 main themes we concentrate on are;

• Was the activity/event, the young carers, were engaged in fun, beneficial or educational, and is it something that they would like to do/ be involved with again?
• What other activities or actions would they like us to organise and deliver?
• Is there something they have asked us to arrange/ organise which has not happened or something they would like us to do which has not happened before?

There is a young carer that sits on our multi liaison professional group.

Within Newry and Mourne Cares Association there is a culture of inclusion and participation. Within the Young Carers Project we have some structures, work practices and mechanics for review set in place to promote participation.
