Northern Ireland Youth Forum[NI]
The Northern Ireland Youth Forum was established in 1979 and its mission is to work to empower young people, enabling them to realise their full potential and become active citizens in society.
Aim:The Youth Forum seeks to actively engage young people in decision making both within the management and development of the organisation, methods and delivery of programmes and in the wider social policy context.
One of the organisation’s core long-term aims is to ensure that young people have the ability and opportunity to articulate their needs, views and aspirations to a wider community, including statutory bodies, government departments and the NI Assembly, ensuring critical issues are highlighted.
Priorities on the way to achieving this aim include:
- Consulting regularly with young people
- Promoting training for young people to develop campaigning and lobbying skills
- Consulting with other agencies to determine how best to involve young people in the development of policy and establish appropriate mechanisms
- Undertake and publish research on youth related issues
