Lisburn Families Service [NI]

Age Group: 8-19 years
Specific Interest Group: Children and Young People with Learning Disability

How are Children and Young People Involved?
We have an advocacy group which has started recently. While not aimed at receiving feedback about our service exclusively, the group have begun to do so and we will be taking their comments on board and involving them in discussions around the service. Don’t know if this is what you are interested in or not but feel free to contact me if you would like further information. (A similar group is starting in our Bangor service too but it is further behind.)

Group is still in early stages but staff are helping young people aged 14-18yrs, with a learning disability to look at various aspects of their lives (e.g. school, leisure activities etc.) and any changes they would want to make. The group is using discussion, roleplay, questionnaires etc to explore these areas. We would be keen to use a video diary approach at some time in the future.

Karen Wiggins is a social work student who is looking after the group at present. You can contact her at our Lisburn office, 002892 606740 or email karen.wiggins@positive-futures.net
