RIGHTS - Section 75 [NI]

Section 75 of the Northern Ireland Act 1998 requires a public authority in carrying its duty, to have due regard to the need to promote equality of opportunity between:-

a) persons of religious belief, political opinion, racial group, age, marital status or sexual orientation.
b) Between women and men generally
c) Between person with and without disability and
d) Between persons with dependents and person without

Section 75 is about mainstreaming equality though the building of relationships between those who make and deliver public policy and those affected by such policy.
Hence, the legislation requires that public bodies consult with children and young people on matters affecting them.
