Toolkit
Intended for local authorities everywhere in the world, civil society organisations who work with local authorities, networks of organisations, political parties, universities and individual citizens, this website provides a toolkit which aims to promote citizen participation in local government.
The toolkit is a joint initiative of three Dutch organisations; the International Project Unit of the Association of Netherlands Municipalities (VNG), development organisation Novib and The Habitat Platform and has partnerships with a number of private and public organisations worldwide.
Sections include:
- Analysis: which summarises lessons which can be learned from the cases on this site about how to make participation in local governance work
- Toolkit: which allows a search through over a hundred of participation cases
- News & Forum: a section containing a number of links from around the world. This section also invites users to join the debate on participation in local governance
Although this website is not designed for children and young people, it contains ideas, information, resources and examples of good practice to inform thinking on how to make their participation in local governance work.
