Ulster Scots Youth [NI]

Age Group: 11-14
Specific Interest Group: Children and Young People in Newry,Kilkeel,Newtownabbey,Crossgar and the Shankill areas

The Agency runs Ulster-Scots summer schemes with the 11-14 age group 10 male and 10 female and at present schemes run in July-August for one week.

How are Children and Young People Involved?
Activities covered include local history project,Ulster-Scots Activities,Cookery,Archery,Elizabethan/Settlement workshops,Language,Art,Drama,Dance and Music.

Music workshops include Lambeg,Fiddle,Fife,Drum,Accordian,Pipes and other instruments.

Participation from NICCY at some workshops and input from young people at end of project to gain views via questionare.

A Ulster-Scots youth forum is in the proccess of being formed at present.

As well as summer schemes there are 5 projects running in North,South,East and West Belfast as well as The Fountian in Derry/londonderry.

These are-

Shankill-Art project Malvern and Edenbrooke Primary Schools. 40-50 p7
Oasis Center-East Belfast Highland Dance 20 girls aged 9-16
Nubia Youth Center and Maldon Primary School-South Belfast –Ruby Murray mural
20 p7 children and 65-70 young people aged 11-16.
St Columbs Cathedral Youth Club-Lambeg and fife and pipes classes.

Also a new primary schools web site sponsored by CEA,Dept of Education and Stranmillis University.
