Young Independents Group aka The HOPE Mentoring Project [NI]

Target Group: children and young people (16+) who have left care or are leaving care

The Young Independents Group is an organisation for young people aged 16+ who are leaving care or have left care or are 16+ young people receiving support form Social Services in the Foyle Trust and Sperrin Lakeland Trust Areas. The group seeks to empower young people by offering a range of creative, social, educational and personal development opportunities to help young people to achieve their full transition into adulthood.

Within the Young Independents Group, Mentoring is a unique one-to one relationship between a young person and a responsible adult aged 25+. The adult offers the young person support, information and guidance whilst empowering them to be the person they want to be.

Mentors must be over 25 and be prepared to participate in our Training Programme and adhere to our policies and procedures. Mentors are asked to give up 2-3 hours per week for 1 year.
