Young People’s Advisory Forum [NI]
The Young People’s Advisory Forum has been set up by the Children and Young People’s Unit of the Office of First Minister and Deputy First Minister to contribute to the development of an overarching ten-year children’s strategy for Northern Ireland.
TargetThe Forum consists of 49 young people, with an appropriate community background, gender, race, and ability mix.
Children and Young People’s Involvement: The young people are tasked with providing advice on a range of topics and commenting on draft papers produced by CYPU in its consultations regarding a children’s strategy for Northern Ireland.
A number of young people from the Forum have participated in a Future Search event contributing their views on proposals for a children’s strategy.
Members of the Forum are also participating in the appointment process for the Children and Young People’s Commissioner.
The Advisory Forum operates as a temporary body and the children’s strategy will consider the possible development of a more permanent structure to enable young people’s participation in decision-making processes.
End Date: The first meeting was held on 5 October 2002 and the membership came to an end on 26 June 2004.
